Visitor number 50,000 arrives from the kitchen
On Wednesday 8 August the Czech House welcomed its fifty thousandth visitor. The unsuspecting individual was thirty-eight year old Michal Černý from Prague, who has lived in London for three and half years and works as a kitchen assistant. As he arri
ved a surprise was waiting for him by the door – a welcoming committee made up of the Czech House management.
How do you feel about being visitor number 50,000?
I’m very surprised; it’s something I really didn’t expect. I need to take it in.
Is this your first visit to the Czech House?
I’m here for the second time. I have watched everything from the start on TV, so I knew in advance there would be something like this.
How do you like it here?
The Czech House is beautiful – modern and right from the multimedia age. I have not been to any other Olympic houses, but this is certainly well done. You don’t get bored here; there’s always something to do. Everyone has a good time.
On the stage you were given some nice gifts…
I was given free entry to the Czech House until the end of the Olympics, which is great! I was also given one of the official team caps and a voucher worth 100 pounds to spend at Alpine Pro, a glass paperweight, and even a tee-shirt signed by the most successful Czech Olympian Věra Čáslavská. I would be interested to know what the hundred-thousandth visitor will get. Maybe I should count them off and come again:-)
Will you celebrate your unexpected title?
Yes, of course. My friend who came with me has already called all our friends. We are going to have a proper celebration; here at the Czech House naturally!
